SHANDA
DEZIEL
Coming
out of the vibrant, slightly off-centre Winnipeg arts community, this band
of rootsy pop folkies has delivered a sophomore effort that takes a while
to sink in. The sweet, cutesy vocals initially seem at odds with the twangy,
bluegrass vibe. But singer-songwriter Keri McTighe might not be as innocent
as she sounds -- the lyrics are actually coy and subversive. So even if
the sound doesn't exactly feel rough or authentic enough, Jimson Weed is
worth a few spins.
