ALT-COUNTRY LOCALS NATHAN SNAG CANADIAN FOLK AWARDS

Local alt-country quartet Nathan are now officially one of the best folk groups in Canada. 

The group took home trophies in two of the three categories they were nominated at the inaugural Canadian Folk Music Awards yesterday in Ottawa. 

Vocalist-guitarist Keri Latimer and bassist Devin Latimer were flown to the city by their label Nettwerk Records to pick up awards for best contemporary album and best vocal group for their sophomore effort Jimson Weed. 

Nathan were the only Manitoba act to take home hardware from the new awards show. Ottawa's Lynn Miles was the only other multiple winner with awards for best songwriter (English) and best contemporary singer. Other winners of the glass sculpture trophies included Ian Robb for best traditional singer, Alpha Yaya Diallo for best solo world artist, Genticorum for best ensemble, Harry Manx for best solo artist, Karla Anderson for best new emerging artist and Le Vent du Nord, who won best traditional album for Les Amants du Saint Laurents. 

The awards were created to attract mainstream attention for the growing community.
